We’ve just returned from Thought Bubble

we are words + pictures used the event essentially to launch, to throw our name at people, sell our wares and have some fun. We were desperately nervous about the whole affair, because the idea of getting our stuff out to people is about the most nerve wracking thing possible. We’re a band/collective/gang in our infancy, none of whom had exhibited at an event like this before and we had no idea if the reaction would be favourable, or if it would be successful, or if it would be noticed. We went, essentially, with low expectations and fear.

The main thrust of the day was to get flyers into hands and try to persuade people to swing by the site over the next few weeks while we start to get material together. We also brought with us our first collaboration: three robot-based strips done by each of the band (printed through tiredness and tension by Julia – in true indie-hero style – overnight before the convention), Matthew took The Polaroid Press packs up too and Alexis Goodwin‘s marvelous The Visitor also graced the table.

It went so SO much better than we could have hoped. The Robot ‘zine – and the print of Sarah‘s beautiful cover – actually sold out.

(which, of course, means we’ll be printing more over the coming weeks and means we’ll be bringing more to future shows)

But more than the victorious exhibition it was a weekend of fun and dancing and laughs and drinking and in-jokes and sleeplessness and learning and friends. This post is to say Thank You, Everyone. Thanks to those who took flyers and are checking us out now they’re home, thanks to the pros and small pressers (Marc and Anna, Kieron, McKelvie, Phil, Clare, Liz, Hotwell, Jon, Lewis, Claude TC and the others we’ve let slip through hangovers) who took us under their wing and were so generous, thanks to everyone who bought things from us and thanks to everyone who just stopped by for a chat.

But thanks especially to Lisa, Tamsin and the staff and volunteers of Thought Bubble, who provided one of the most comfortable, friendly and entertaining experiences of our young lives.

What a brilliant weekend.
